BlackBerry filed a complaint for breach of copyright against a start-up co-founded by Ryan Seacrest. Typo Products offers indeed a case with keyboard for iPhone whose design is reminiscent of the well-known Canadian terminal keyboard.
Friday, the Canadian manufacturer has launched a lawsuit against the start- up Typo Products LLC. It sells ( $ 99 HT currently preorder ) with a hull built for the iPhone 5 and 5S keyboard. The young company based in Los Angeles was founded by entrepreneur Laurence Hallier and star of American television Ryan Seacrest . Its unique product, ” Typo Keyboard ” has been designed to type faster and with less typos on the iPhone. Today, the company is estimating that it may have gone a little fast . Because, according to BlackBerry , reproducing the design of the keyboard of the BlackBerry, Typo Keyboards violates the intellectual property of the manufacturer . According to the complaint filed Friday before the District Court of Northern California, instead of developing its own design , ” Typo chose to copy the design of the iconic BlackBerry keyboard , that fitted , among others, the Q10 BlackBerry smartphone .” In a statement, Steve Zipperstein , General Counsel and Director of Legal Services manufacturer said: ” This is a blatant violation of the iconic BlackBerry keyboard and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that tries to copy this unique design ” . It wants the case tried in a jury trial for redress.
